Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

One of the most well researched evidence-based therapy is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).  Generally, everyone has certain beliefs about themselves, others or how the world is like. It is through these beliefs that perceptions of people or situations are formed through thoughts that seem to come up to you, sometimes without you even knowing why. These thoughts may spur into certain emotional responses, physiological symptoms and even some particular behaviours. CBT is underpinned by cognitive model which proposes that dysfunctional beliefs or thinkings can lead to vicious cycle of thought and behavioural patterns.

As simple as it may sound, it is not as straight-forward. CBT sessions are structured to diagnose the relational factors such as current triggers, past experience and dysfunctional coping methods surrounding the issue presented to assess and formulate intervention strategy.

The strategies are dynamic in nature and could evolve from focusing on the resolving issue to promoting strengths and resources. The therapy process is collaborative and educative that emphasises on active participation from client and guidance of know-how to the client to self-therapy post the end of therapy sessions. Even after the therapy sessions ended, there could be regular maintenance sessions once every few months to help upkeep the progress of the client.

The usage of techniques is wide, depending on the issue, and may include socratic approach to unpack deeply rooted reasons or explore new possibilities of the situations, relaxation techniques, role-play, behavioural experiments and journalling, just to name a few.

Psychotherapy & Counselling

Each of us goes through different experiences in life which shaped us in unique ways in our beliefs, thoughts, emotions and behaviours. We may tend to react automatically in repeated patterns and have similar outcomes as a result. The Earthy Therapist seeks to help you raise awareness to your authentic inner self, resolve or cope with your issues and improve your quality of life.

If you go for regular facial treatments, they help to maintain your skin aesthetically. If you go for regular gym workouts, they help to maintain your physical fitness. There are definitely other benefits to both but the most identifiable ones would be the physical appearance.

Psychotherapy and counselling deals with your inner well-being and  can not only help you uncover your inner self but also equip you with ways to deal with the stressors in life. One does not need to have a mental meltdown to seek therapy. Anyone can benefit from having a good mental well-being.  It is no less important, if not more important than the outward appearance. As the Chinese saying goes, what you experience internally, it ultimately gets reflected outwardly in physical form like behaviours.

Investment in your inner self would help you make more thoughtful decisions (big or small in ripple effects) which can be impactful to any one's life.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), quite self-exploratory as per its name, focuses on developing solutions as opposed to problem-focused.

Similarly, SFBT is collaborative and building rapport with the client is equally important as with most therapies if not all. The therapy approach focuses very much on the present and the future of how the client would look like for the client, projecting the future-self based on the inner resources the client has.

Often, client is already very much intertwined with the issues to reflect on possible solution constructions. SFBT utilises techniques that include problem externalisation, future projection, different perspective examination and reflection of previous experiences to motivate client to think-out-of-the-box in the design of solutions.

The rainbow is out there waiting to be discovered.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is often considered an alternative therapy. It is different from traditional psychotherapy approaches as it deals with the subconscious mind.

It uses hypnosis to induce one into a highly focused and attentive state at the unconscious level where one is more receptive and open towards suggestions to the subconscious mind to achieve the client's therapeutic goals for positive changes.

There are many different therapy approaches and the aforementioned are only a few. Psychotherapists may use singular or an integrated approach which combines various aspects of the approaches and customise based on the client's presented issues and goals.
