When do you think you need counselling and therapy?
Even amongst the toughest individuals, life can be challenging at different junctures. It does not mean that you are weak by acknowledging and seeking help. In fact, it takes awareness and courage to recognise when one needs help.

Have you been going through any of these?

-
Generally unhappy or depressed or stressed
-
Feel quite lost or confused or even feeling a little stuck in where you are at
-
Anxious of what is going to happen next
-
Worry almost all the time about almost all things (big or small)
-
Struggle in keeping up with expectations and demands
-
Procrastinate with decisions or actions
-
Feel frustration over yourself and/or others over unresolved matters
-
Feel constant fatigue as you cannot seem to fall asleep easily
-
Past events that refrain you from moving forward
-
Relationship issues such as communication breakdown or separation/ divorce
-
Work issues such as lack of motivation or difficult boss or colleagues
-
Study issues

Above is a non-exhaustive list. You may or may not know what is the issue(s) that is or has been affecting you. Maybe, this is now the time to talk to a psychotherapist. It is different from talking to a friend or a relative who may wish to help you by listening but is not be equipped with the skills to help you. A psychotherapist is trained with specific set of psychotherapy approaches and tools.

Take the time and courage to reach out to a psychotherapist to find out what are the struggles you are facing or how to move out of the vicious cycle.

What help can the Earthy Therapist provide?
A psychotherapist is trained to listen in a non-judgemental manner and can help you unravel what is going on. No one knows better than yourself but it can take some discussions in the form of socratic questioning and psychotherapy tools to yield new perspectives and possibilities for the same situations.
Do you notice that sometimes you may review your situation in your mind repeatedly and get the same results?

The therapist can approach your issues through application of different psychotherapy approaches and techniques to :-
-
Help you to self-discover your beliefs, your thoughts and how come you react the way you do
-
Focus on finding the solutions rather than the problems
-
Discover new perspectives and possibilities
-
Form goals and plans to reach them
-
Plan out how to move forward. There could be 3 steps forward and 2 steps backwards. It is normal
-
Build coping strategies for issues where necessary. We cannot dictate others or change the happened events but we can change the way we react
-
Build resilience and create mindfulness

Ultimately, you hold the key. It is yourself who has to go through the thought process, the emotional aspects and the behavioural changes.

How do you choose a therapist?
There are many therapists who are professionally trained with qualifications on different psychotherapy modalities. The Earthy Therapist is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Hypnotherapy. Depending on the issue(s) presented by you, the Earthy therapist will work to journey with you to achieve your goals, fostering resilience and mindfulness through positive psychology.

The most fundamental criteria in deciding on a therapist that is suitable for you is the therapeutic alliance (i.e. rapport) between you and the therapist. The next question is then, what is considered a strong therapeutic alliance or strong rapport. Rapport is surely not built over a single therapy session. However, during your initial discussion with the therapist, you could get a sense of whether you are or would be comfortable discussing your matter with him/her.

No matter how qualified or experienced a therapist is, if you are not comfortable (for whatever reason) when you speak with him/her, the therapy sessions may not be as beneficial to you.

The Earthy Therapist provides you with a non-judgemental safe environment where you are able to share and explore your inner deep concerns and viewpoints without reservation. Through the appropriate therapy approach, the Earthy Therapist aims to help you achieve and move forward. The therapy approach may evolve during the course of the therapy sessions, depending on the assessed progress and ultimately, it would be the greatest satisfaction for the Earthy Therapist to see you being able to work through the issue(s) and meet your therapeutic goal(s). It does not mean that you will be completely free from problems, worries or fears and nothing would ever bother you. It is not. It means you will be armed with coping mechanisms to hopefully handle the next issue that comes along. There could be follow-up sessions after 1, 3 or 6 months to help review your therapeutic journey progress.
